Industrial IoT Gateways for CNC and Conventional Machines
An industrial IoT gateway is a small hardware unit that sits in the machine’s electrical panel and reads its signals — running, idle, stopped, cycle complete, alarm — without touching the machine’s controller or its programs. M-Connect gateways do this on CNC, VMC, welding, stamping, laser, injection-moulding and conventional machines, including older Fanuc and Siemens controllers, and send the data over Wi-Fi, 4G or wired LAN.
Nothing on the machine is modified and no CNC program changes. If the network drops, the gateway keeps recording and catches up when it comes back. Designed and assembled in-house by Maestro Technology Services in Coimbatore.

Can you monitor old machines without replacing them?
Yes, and this is usually the deciding question in an Indian plant, because most shop floors are mixed: a few recent CNC machines with modern controllers, and a much larger number of machines from the 1990s and 2000s that work perfectly well and are not going anywhere.
The gateway does not talk to the machine’s controller. It reads the machine’s own electrical signals through eight opto-isolated digital inputs — the same contactors and relays that already tell the panel whether the spindle is turning, whether the cycle has completed, whether an alarm is active. That is why the machine’s age, brand and controller mostly do not matter: a 1998 press and a five-axis machining centre both report running, idle and stopped the same way on the dashboard.
Nothing is modified on the machine. No controller firmware is touched, no CNC program is changed, and the machine’s warranty is not affected. The data then feeds our machine monitoring software.
Does it work without internet on the shop floor?
Yes. The gateway buffers data locally and re-sends it when the connection returns, so a dropped link or a power cut does not lose the shift. M-Connect states a 12-hour offline buffer with zero data loss.
On connectivity, each gateway can use Wi-Fi (2.4 GHz), a 4G mobile connection, or wired Ethernet LAN. In practice most plants use 4G for the machines the IT network does not reach — which, in a shed built before anyone thought about shop-floor networking, is usually most of them.
Hardware designed, assembled and supported in Coimbatore
M-Connect gateways are designed and assembled in-house by Maestro Technology Services Pvt. Ltd. in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu — not white-labelled from a catalogue. That is why the specification looks the way it does: opto-isolated inputs because factory power in Tamil Nadu is not clean, a metal enclosure because the panel it sits in is hot and full of dust, 4G alongside Wi-Fi and LAN because the IT network rarely reaches the machine.
It also decides who you call when a unit needs attention. Because the hardware is ours and the team is in Coimbatore, support is a phone call to a 0422 number, not a ticket into another country’s time zone.

Common questions about M-Connect industrial IoT gateways and machine connectivity devices.
What is an Industrial IoT Gateway?
An Industrial IoT Gateway is a hardware device that connects factory machines to the cloud or a local server. It captures machine signals — run status, cycle counts, alarms — and transmits them securely for real-time monitoring and analytics.
What machines can M-Connect gateways connect to?
M-Connect gateways connect to CNC machines (Fanuc, Siemens, Mitsubishi), VMC/HMC machining centres, conventional lathes, welding machines, laser cutters, press brakes, and PLCs from any manufacturer.
Does M-Connect require modification to existing machines?
No. M-Connect captures machine signals externally without modifying the machine controller or CNC programs, ensuring safe installation without affecting machine operations. Installation is non-invasive and does not affect machine warranty or operations.
How do you integrate with different machine brands and controllers (Fanuc, Siemens, etc.), especially older models?
We integrate with machines of all brands and controllers—including Fanuc, Siemens, Mitsubishi, and others—using our M-Connect retrofit device, which works independently of the machine’s make, model, or controller type.
For older machines or those without modern PLCs, M-Connect captures data directly from electrical signals, control panels, or external sensors—without interfering with the machine’s operation. This non-intrusive approach standardizes data collection across heterogeneous environments, making integration fast, cost-effective, and scalable.
What kind of network infrastructure is required?
Our M-Connect device supports multiple connectivity options:
- Wi-Fi 2.4 GHz
- 4G/LTE mobile network
- Ethernet LAN
Since the device captures and processes only business-critical data at the edge, the bandwidth requirement is minimal—typically 128 to 256 Kbps per device. This makes it suitable even for environments with limited or unstable network infrastructure.
Are there offline or limited-connectivity fallback options?
Yes. Each M-Connect device can store up to 12 hours of operational data locally during connectivity disruptions. For critical environments, we also support an edge-level staging server that acts as a local buffer. Once the connection is restored, all buffered data is automatically synced to the cloud—ensuring zero data loss.
What is the difference between the gateway with and without HMI?
The gateway without HMI is a compact, headless device for data acquisition only. The gateway with HMI adds a 20×4 LCD display and a membrane keypad for local operator interaction and machine status visibility at the machine.
